Once again, reports suggest that Liverpool want goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir. Several reports, over several months, have claimed similar.
Tutto Mercato Web believes that Liverpool are one of several clubs looking at Cakir. Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, Roma, and Sevilla are also in the chase.
Trabzonspor would want around £17m for their goalkeeper who, at 24, does look like a very promising goalkeeper.
This certainly isn’t the first time that an outlet has put Liverpool’s name with Cakir’s. Turkish outlet Karadeniz Gazetesi, for instance, linked the two back in January.
What RTK has to say
This may have been one to watch in a normal summer. Cakir looks like a very talented young goalkeeper and one who any team would be lucky to have. He’d be an outstanding backup for Alisson and at a reasonable price, if Liverpool wanted top-class backup.
And if they can’t justify spending considerable amounts on principle targets like Timo Werner, they won’t justify it on a backup goalkeeper.
The role just isn’t a necessity, negating any desire to take a risk with spending. As good as Cakir may be, and as nice as having top-class backup may be, we just can’t see Liverpool justifying a £17m fee.
