Chelsea are waiting in the wings as Liverpool make their decision on Timo Werner, according to reports. The Reds aren’t sure what they’re doing just yet.
That’s according to 90min, who say the Blues will move for Werner if they get an opportunity. Liverpool are at the front of the queue but things aren’t that simple.
Liverpool have asked Werner’s representatives for more time to decide whether they’re making a £52m move or not (per the Guardian). Thus Chelsea see a potential opportunity.
They don’t believe they can beat the Reds to Werner normally but if Liverpool decide not to move, they feel they can get him.
And so it all comes down to whatever Liverpool decide. If they want Werner now, he’s theirs. If they stall too long, however, Chelsea may get their rival’s chief target.
What RTK has to say
Much the same as Inter, then. The Italians are supposedly also waiting to see what happens before rivalling Liverpool.
One thing doesn’t change, however – Liverpool are in the driving seat. They have the money, they have the prestige and it all comes down to risk-taking.
The Reds aren’t desperate for a new player, which is actually a ‘problem’ when it comes to getting this deal done. With all the economic uncertainty, they may not take the risk as they simply don’t have to.
Their rivals may take it, though. Chelsea need a further push in their team, particularly going forward, and Werner would be that. They’ll just be hoping that Liverpool aren’t as desperate for a new signing as they are.
