Journalist claims Timo Werner to Liverpool transfer 'will happen'

Journalist Dean Jones understands that Timo Werner will transfer to Liverpool before long. It appears to simply be a matter of time.

Jones held a Q&A session for Bleacher Report where a fan asked him if Werner is heading to Liverpool.

“Everything I’m hearing is that this will happen,” he wrote. “The only confusion comes with this pause in activity and how hard it is to negotiate and have discussions right now because of the travel ban.

“I’m told Werner is desperate to play in the Premier League. I know he’s linked with a lot of English clubs, but if he’s going to come he has to go to a team that’s really challenging. Plus there’s the lure of Klopp, so that make Liverpool his top destination.”

This news comes just days after SportBild journalist Christian Falk said similar. Falk believed that Liverpool had scheduled meetings between Klopp and Werner. That certainly suggests things are moving along.

Various outlets have linked Liverpool and Werner for some time. The Independent, to pick out one, claimed back in February that the Reds were considering a £50m move.

Now, it appears that’s close.

What RTK has to say

Remember when Liverpool’s Fabinho interest was first reported the day he signed? This Werner to Liverpool transfer is the opposite of that.

It feels as though we’ve talked about Werner for an age but things are now at the point where you can start being confident. Multiple journalists are willing to say it’s happening with some confidence, after all.

The current climate is having an effect, however. Can a club feasibly complete a £50m signing with all that’s happening? That’s something we don’t yet know but will likely soon find out.
