Two Real Madrid players that Liverpool supposedly wanted are now available again, according to reports.
Spanish outlet Sport claims that Real are looking to sell up to 11 players over the summer in a big rebuild. Two of those should interest Liverpool.
The first is Eder Militao. The young defender joined Real last year for around £44m but hasn’t broken into the side. This comes a year after reports believed that Liverpool wanted the player.
Then there’s Luka Jovic. The Serbian striker was the talk of Europe a year ago and completed a transfer to Real for around £57m. It’s been a disaster, though – Jovic has just two goals in 24 appearances.
And so he can apparently leave again this summer, which will surely interest several clubs. Liverpool, for one, supposedly wanted him last year.
The Mirror claimed back then that both Liverpool and Barcelona wanted Jovic. Much like Militao, however, he’d head to Madrid.
What RTK has to say
You never really know how strong Liverpool’s interest is unless they make a move. In these two cases, there’s no reason to think it ever reached that stage.
But both Militao and Jovic were great talents a year ago, even if their stock has fallen since – Liverpool would have been mad not to consider them.
Should Liverpool consider the two Real players in 2020, though?
Jovic makes little sense now. He’s a gamble, having now failed to cut the grade at both Benfica and Real. He’s a player who needs a certain environment, it seems, and thus isn’t worth a big-money move.
Militao, however, is an interesting one. Liverpool do appear to want a centre-back with links to Diego Carlos among others. And Militao is young and very talented – you’d think Jurgen Klopp could work some wonders with him.
It depends on the asking price, of course, but he may be one to consider.
