Eduardo Camavinga received an impressive Xabi Alonso comparison on Tuesday. Liverpool and Real Madrid reportedly want the teenager.
Ex-French football Peter Luccin, who played for Marseille, Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid among others, talked about Camavinga to Marca.
Luccin gave a glowing appraisal of the teenager, too, comparing Camavinga to ex-Liverpool and Real midfielder Alonso.
“[Camavinga] has no limits,” Luccin told MARCA. “He is a diamond to be polished. He has a spectacular physique for his age, a good left foot and the will to sacrifice – he will be a star.”
Luccin wasn’t the only one to talk about Camavinga to Marca. Former Real midfielder Christian Benavente, now at Nantes, spoke highly, too.
“I would emphasise that he is always well-marked when it comes to receiving the ball and moving forward and that, at his age, is very difficult,” said Benavente.
“He does not lose the ball in congested areas, he is reliable with short, medium and long passes and, with the ball at his feet, he can break lines with his drives forward.
“He has an air of Xabi Alonso about him.”
Liverpool, as well as Real, reportedly want Camavinga. Sport, for instance, said recently that the Reds want the 17-year-old and he’d cost around £46m.
What RTK has to say
Camavinga sounds better and better every time we hear about him. The Alonso comparisons, in particular, are great – Liverpool lack that kind of player right now.
But the Frenchman can do even more. He leads Ligue 1 in tackles per game (4.3 per Whoscored), suggesting he can really do it all as a midfielder.
And those all-around types are perfect for Liverpool. The Reds’ midfield features several players who excel at providing the necessary skills for the moment, rather than specialised roles.
It certainly sounds as though Camavinga can accomplish that, too. We’ve said before that he’s ideal for Liverpool and we stand by that.
