Fabian Ruiz would cost around £87m this summer, according to reports. Liverpool supposedly want the player.
Spanish outlet AS believes Ruiz would cost a club €100m (£87m) this summer. Now, the club they’re talking about is Real Madrid, who supposedly see the player as Isco’s replacement.
Napoli won’t want to sell, however, and intend to keep him around for the duration of his contract. That would be 2023 – effectively taking the 24-year-old into the prime of his career.
Real are hardly going to be the only club looking at Ruiz, though. The Express mentioned several clubs last month, including Liverpool. El Desmarque in Spain, too, claims Liverpool prefer Ruiz to Coutinho.
The Reds supposedly want to pay £74m for him and hope to beat Real, Barcelona, and several others to his signature.
This is a significant jump in price, though, and one that would surely put clubs off in the current climate.
What RTK has to say
We actually said after that Express report last month that Ruiz was the right player for the wrong price. And that was at £74m.
An extra £13m would surely be far too much, given that there isn’t an obvious place for Ruiz right now. He’d be an investment in the future as much as anything and £87m is a huge amount of money for that.
We said in that piece that Liverpool should go for Havertz if they are paying that kind of money. The club reportedly values Havertz at half of his £80m price (per the Independent), though, so this Ruiz fee seems far too high.
We feel Havertz is virtually perfect, after all, which is something we can’t quite say about Ruiz.
