Sadio Mane would only consider leaving Liverpool for Real Madrid, according to reports. But the Reds would demand a very high price.
France Football believes Mane is open to a Real move. They say it’s the only club he’d consider, in fact, and that there’s a mutual interest between Mane and Zinedine Zidane.
So why is Mane open to it? Because, apparently, Jurgen Klopp left him with a bitter taste in his mouth during Ballon d’Or season.
The Liverpool boss openly backed Virgil van Dijk for the award – overlooking Mane. This makes the deal more viable, they say.
But true or not, it’s still far from simple. Liverpool would want €150m (£132m) for their no.10 and aren’t prepared to budge. That’s an enormous price for a 28-year-old – Real would have to really want him.
There’s also a small chance of Paris Saint-Germain, according to the report. They say Mane would be the ideal replacement for Kylian Mbappe or Neymar but that the Senegalese would still only want Real.
What RTK has to say
Mane has never, at any point, come across like the type of person to feel bitter over an individual award. Particularly as, honestly, he was never going to win the Ballon d’Or.
He was a front-runner, sure, but the chances of him beating Van Dijk or Lionel Messi were very slim. And you can’t imagine he saw his chances as high enough that he’d fall out with Klopp over this.
As for the rest, that figure does sound about right. It makes no real sense to sell Mane for anything other than a massive fee and even then, you’d think twice.
All in all, there’s nothing to worry Liverpool fans here.
