Jurgen Klopp will meet with Timo Werner over a potential move to Liverpool, according to reports. It would be a giant step forward for the potential deal.
This comes from an interview Passione Inter did with German journalist Christian Falk. Falk, who works for SportBILD, ruled out Internazionale’s chances because of Liverpool.
“Werner won’t go to Inter,” he said. “There are already meetings scheduled with Jürgen Klopp. Liverpool is the big favourite to buy [him] in the summer.”
Presumably, those meetings would be over video in the current climate.
Reports have linked Liverpool to Werner for what seems like an eternity. The Independent, for instance, said back in February that Liverpool hold a lot of interest in the player.
They’ve assessed a potential deal for a long time hope to sign him for around £50m. That’s a steal, as Werner is 24 and has 27 goals in 36 games this season, playing in the Bundesliga and Champions League.
What RTK has to say
It’s an understatement to say that Liverpool are big favourites to sign Werner if Falk is correct. They’ll have hit the meeting stage, after all, suggesting Liverpool already have everything in order to make the move happen.
Convincing Werner may not be simple, however. Will he start regularly? Can Liverpool offer that to any player, given the success of their current front three?
That remains to be seen but if Liverpool will spend £50m, you can bet they have big plans. It’s just up to Klopp to convince Werner that they’re the right plans for him.
And if anyone can do that, you’d bet on Klopp. Fingers crossed he can because Werner would be a fantastic addition to Liverpool.
For that reason, this news is particularly exciting.
