Valencia will sell other players in a last-ditch attempt to get Ferran Torres to renew his contract, according to reports. Otherwise, they could lose him on a free transfer.

OK Diario in Spain believes Valencia will offer Ferran a new contract. They desperately need it, too, as the winger’s current deal expires in June 2021.

No new deal leaves them with two options. They can either sell now for a reduced amount in a difficult economic climate, or they can wait a year and lose him for nothing.

Ferran has a £90m release clause, too, and figures close to that aren’t unreasonable for a very talented 20-year-old. Losing him for free would be disastrous.

Clubs circle around the situation. The article mentions Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, Manchester City, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool – the cream of Europe, in other words.

Valencia hope to persuade Ferran into renewing, however. They know it won’t be easy – and that they could be too late – but they’ll make him the highest-paid player at the club.

To achieve that, Valencia will even sell others, such as Carlos Soler for around £34m. If they can persuade Ferran to sign, then they can get a higher fee when they do sell – and comfortably keep him for another year at least.

What RTK has to say

This is far from the first link between Liverpool and Ferran, either. Goal claimed recently that Liverpool were one of seven clubs to enquire about the player. The Mirror have said that Liverpool want him, too.

And Valencia’s move here would obviously be bad for the Reds if it came off. As things stand, Liverpool have a good chance at a very talented young player on the cheap.

In all likelihood, however, Valencia are too late. Ferran will know full well that he’s on control of the situation and a free transfer would guarantee him a better choice and better money.
