Reports in Italy claim that Inter want to sign Gini Wijnaldum this summer. They fear they’re too late, however.
Tutto Mercato Web say that recent discussions led to Inter deciding to pursue the Dutchman. Wijnaldum is entering the final year of his contract, after all, and the hope is that he may cost around £26m.
That’s still relatively high for Inter but it is a low price for a player with the experience and quality of Wijnaldum.
The problem for the Nerazzurri, then, is that they believe they’ve come in too late. Negotiations between Liverpool and Wijnaldum have accelerated, apparently, with the Reds’ latest offer.
Thus, Inter are wishing they’d started the pursuit a little earlier.

What RTK has to say
There’s no reason to doubt that Inter would want Wijnaldum. Why wouldn’t they? He’s a fantastic midfielder and for our money, there isn’t anyone better at his role.
But this wouldn’t add up with another recent report. The Daily Mail claimed recently that Liverpool aren’t negotiating at all right now and won’t until the current climate is more certain.
That’s at odds with the claim that Liverpool have recently offered Wijnaldum a new deal.
So it may be that Inter have a better shot than they realise, if the Mail is correct. Alternatively, the Mail have it slightly wrong and Liverpool have made an exception for Wijnaldum’s contract.
For the Reds’ sake, we hope it’s the latter.
