Liverpool are reportedly tracking Aaron Ramsey, according to reports in Italy. They’re making a mistake if it’s true, though.
Italian outlet Transfer Market Web says that Ramsey will likely stay put with Juventus for next season. But there’s still a very good chance that he’ll rejoin the Premier League, apparently.
He could join Manchester United, they say, but both Liverpool and Chelsea are tracking Ramsey. So depending on how things go for Juve’s transfer window, the Welshman could leave.
One stumbling block for any team will be Ramsey’s wages, though. The Standard says that while some outlets claim that he earns £400k-a-week, Juve privately say it’s actually closer to £250k. Admittedly, that does sound a lot more reasonable.
What RTK has to say
To put it simply, Ramsey is not a player Liverpool should consider. He’s 29, for one thing, and thus near the end of his prime years. There would be no sell-on value, of course, but that isn’t even the biggest problem.
It usually takes time to get up to speed with Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp. Fabinho, for instance, barely started games until six months into his Anfield career. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had a similar time. Andy Robertson, too.
So Ramsey could be into his 30s before he’d be a regular for Liverpool. For a player with injury problems anyway, that’s a terrible mix. Add in his wages and the move just doesn’t make any sense at all.
Then there’s the topper of Ramsey playing the same sort of role as Curtis Jones and thus blocking his path. Hopefully, this is just pure speculation as it would actually be quite an awful deal for Liverpool.
