Jurgen Klopp reportedly ‘loves’ Ousmane Dembele and is ready to offer a club-record fee to Barcelona.
Sport makes the claim. The Spanish outlet believes that Dembele may be on his way out of Camp Nou as the club needs funds, with Liverpool ready to take advantage.
Klopp is apparently ‘in love’ with the Frenchman after his performances for Borussia Dortmund. He loved them enough, in fact, that he’s ready to put forward an £80m proposal to Barcelona.
That would be a club-record fee, of course. But Liverpool would surely justify it for a player Klopp apparently sees as his ‘ideal replacement’.
What RTK has to say
Dembele probably is the ideal reinforcement, in all truth. He’s capable of playing on both wings, he’s two-footed and absolutely rapid. That’s all enough to make him a vital member of the squad.
Even as a backup, he’d be ideal as he could cover both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. But then there’s his age, making him an even brighter prospect.
We’ve seen how Klopp can help players move up levels and fulfil potential. Well, Dembele has an awful lot of potential. There’s a reason Barcelona paid around £135m for him, after all.
He’s never quite lived up to expectations at Camp Nou, however. That’s partly because of injuries but they also don’t really suit his style. Dembele would find things easier at a club that looks to counter with pace and utilise wide areas.
Liverpool are a such a side, of course. And with Klopp having already turned Mane and Salah into world-beaters, Dembele would surely be a prime contender to follow suit.
It would be a hefty fee but it does seem justifiable.
