Liverpool could come up against both Thomas Lemar and Nabil Fekir next season, according to reports. The duo are high-profile transfer failures.
Fans fully expected both Lemar and Fekir to be at Liverpool right now. It’s well-reported that the Reds wanted both and were willing to shell out a lot of money for them.
First, there was Lemar. The wide player had shone for AS Monaco back in 2017 and Liverpool reportedly offered £64.8m for him. That was after Monaco had rejected their first bid, too. It wasn’t to be, however, and the Reds moved on – leaving Lemar to leave for Atletico Madrid.
A year later came another transfer failure. Liverpool wanted Fekir from Lyon and were reportedly close to a £52m deal. But they pulled out and opted against the signing, reportedly on medical grounds. One year later, Fekir moved to Real Betis.
And now, years later, Liverpool may get to see how each player fares in the Premier League. That’s because their rivals now reportedly hope to sign them.
And now the Daily Star says that Arsenal have made an enquiry about Fekir, one year after passing on his signing. His impressive form in La Liga appears to have changed their mind, then.
Both Lemar and Fekir could get their Premier League chance and an opportunity to show the Reds what they’re missing. An up-close look at your transfer failures is a rare thing but Liverpool surely must be curious to see what could have been.
