There are some player sales which cut deeper than others. Over the years Kopites have grieved the losses of Fernando Torres, Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho to name but a few. One sale which caused more fury than grief was that of Raheem Sterling. Twitter has reacted after Sterling refused to rule out a return to Liverpool.
Liverpool sold Sterling to Manchester City in 2015 in a £49m deal.
The then teenaged winger left Anfield following a very public dispute between his agent and the club.
The player’s representative dragged the transfer through the media, famously claiming that Raheem wouldn’t sign a new contract on Merseyside even for £900k a week.
Since his megabucks switch up the East Lancs Road he has gone from strength to strength.
There can be no doubting that he did what he set out to do when he left, he improved as a player and won trophies – albeit in a side that could see most of these trophies forfeited for cheating.
In a recent Instagram Live Q&A Sterling admitted that he loves Liverpool and he refused to rule out a return to Anfield.
Twitter has reacted to the comments and it is safe to say he’s not wanted back.
One Manchester United fan chimed in to say he is better than Sadio Mane.
Better than mane

Liverpool fans however aren’t as convinced.
We don’t want him or need him.

If he does come back to Anfield he better have his wallet on him.
Yes, he can pay for a stadium tour

But keep your head up Raheem, you may be good enough one day.
Chin up Raheem. You’d make a decent sub.
