This summer we can expect The Reds to do a lot of business. Michael Edwards will be getting rid of some of the deadwood, cashing in on our fringe players. He will then replace these outgoing stars with younger, more promising prospects. According to The Mirror, Liverpool are lining up a move for Malick Thiaw – a player dubbed as ‘the next Joel Matip‘.
Thiaw currently plays for Schalke in the German Bundesliga.
The centre back recently made his debut for the first team, aged just 18-years-old.
He has been dubbed ‘the next Joel Matip’ as the Cameroonian also made his debut for Schalke at centre back at 18-years-old.
Noted for his ball playing ability, much like Joel Matip, Thiaw can also play in defensive midfield if needed.
His current contract has a release clause of £7m, a pittance in today’s market.
According to The Mirror, Schalke are looking to sign him up to a new contract in order to raise that figure but negotiations are apparently on hold.
His contract expires in 2021, meaning that if The Reds bide their time then he may fulfil his ‘next Joel Matip’ prophesy by joining Liverpool on a free transfer.
What RTK has to say
We’re all in!
Joel Matip is one of Jürgen Klopp’s best ever signings (according to the boss himself).
To sign another Joel Matip would be a treat. At just 18-years-old he has plenty of time to improve, if he is already considered strong enough to appear at centre back in the German Bundesliga then he must have something about him.
We’ll be monitoring this one closely, he could be yet another masterstroke from Michael Edwards.
