Liverpool are close to extending the deals of Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker, according to reports.

90min make the claim. They say that Liverpool will soon finalise deals for each player that will see them ‘rewarded handsomely’.

Both deserve that reward, of course. They’ve been the biggest influence on Liverpool finding the elite level, fixing problems that had haunted the Reds for years.

Van Dijk’s £75m arrival in January 2018 led to an immediate impact. Liverpool were in the Champions League final just a few months later and the Dutchman found form as the best defender around.

Liverpool needed a little more, however, and found that in Alisson. The Brazilian moved to Anfield for £67m the summer after Van Dijk and helped push the Reds over the line to become European champions.

The two are truly fantastic players. Van Dijk came second in the Ballon d’Or voting, after all, why Alisson won the inaugural Yashin award.

So new deals ensure a bright future for Liverpool. We know these are two players who can form the backbone of a successful, world-class team.

And with Liverpool not giving either a reason to leave, this could be the start of another period of success. There needs to be more work, of course, but this is as good a start as possible.

Quite honestly, new deals for Van Dijk and Alisson are as good as any signing.
