The last few weeks have turned the world upside down. The global health crisis has rightly shut down all major sporting events across Europe. With Liverpool 25 points clear at the top of the Premier League table, fans have been wondering whether that would be enough after all. Liverpool fans are now celebrating the latest Premier League announcement which seems to all but guarantee The Reds the title.
The ongoing crisis is having a profound on our society, football has rightly taken a backseat whilst the government seeks to tackle the issue.
However, there is still the consideration of what happens when football can return.
Some voices had called for the season to be declared ‘null and void’, a cruel option as it would deny teams such as Leeds United promotion and would prevent the runaway leaders Liverpool from lifting their first title in 30 years.
Others had suggested that the season finished as is, whilst more sensible voices have called for the season to be finished when possible. The Premier League today announced that they will be extending the 2019/20 campaign indefinitely.
