Liverpool are soon to have one of their busiest summers of recent times. The Reds have mountains of cash and deadwood to shift. The deadwood will be replaced and the first team will be improved with variety and depth. One player heading for the exit door is rumoured to be Dejan Lovren with Arsenal and Tottenham allegedly interested in the Croatian defender.
The Reds first signed Lovren in 2014, paying Southampton £20m for the defender.
The Croatian has since played in a World Cup Final and been replaced by Virgil van Dijk.
It became apparent after a couple of years that Dejan wasn’t the long term leader that Jürgen Klopp’s defence needed.
The retirements of Sami Hyypia and Jamie Carragher left Anfield without a figurehead in the heart of the rearguard, this gap wasn’t filled until the signing of Big Virg.
With the exit door looming, there are a number of clubs looking at our fourth choice centre back.
According to La Lazio Siamo Noi, Dejan Lovren is wanted by Arsenal and Tottenham as well as Serie A side Lazio.
The Liverpool ECHO believe that a fee of £10m should be enough to take him from Anfield.
What RTK has to say
The departure of Dejan seems inevitable.
He is far too good to be a fourth choice defender but nowhere near good enough to be a regular starter for this Liverpool side.
We wouldn’t be against him staying in the Premier League, Arsenal and Tottenham aren’t likely to threaten us in the next 100 years, they can have him.
Whatever happens we wish him the best, he has done a lot for the club – we will never forget his winner against Borussia Dortmund.
