Champions or no, Liverpool will be active in the transfer market this summer. The Reds have just played out (most of) the best Premier League season the game has ever seen. Jürgen Klopp’s men opened up a ridiculous gap at the top of the table before the competition was suspended. According to Sky Germany, one possible Liverpool signing is Denis Zakaria.
This isn’t the first time that Zakaria has been linked with a move to the Premier League.
Back in 2017, Blick were one of a number of outlets reporting that Southampton and Manchester City were interested in bringing the midfielder to England.
Now 23-years-old, Zakaria is plying his trade as a defensive midfielder for Borussia Monchengladbach.
Although he usually sits deep in the midfield, he is often found winning the ball deep and driving forward with it, a ball winner and carrier very much in the Steven Gerrard mould.
The Switzerland international has been a regular feature for the German Bundesliga side this season, he’s made 22 appearances and has chipped in with two goals and as many assists.
Sky Germany believe that Liverpool are just one of a number of Premier League clubs interested in Denis Zakaria with Manchester United also credited with interest.
What RTK has to say
Adding variety to midfield wouldn’t go amiss.
Having a proper ball carrying, box to box player would go some way to addressing the void left by Steven Gerrard.
Whilst Naby Keita has shown in flashes that he can fulfil the number eight role, his injury record makes him hard to rely on for a season.
Zakaria would also provide competition to Fabinho, allowing Jordan Henderson to remain further up the pitch instead.
