The Premier League will reportedly name Liverpool as champions, according to reports. This is despite the season being on hiatus.
The Premier League announced on Friday that they were suspending the competition until April 3rd at the earliest. That, understandably, cast a lot of doubt on things.
Will the season even finish? No one seems to know that yet as the global health pandemic continues. For now, things are suspended and will remain that way for at least a month.
With Liverpool so far ahead in the Premier League, though, talk of the title is natural. Have they done enough to win it? Will the Premier League declare everything void?
Well, according to the Telegraph, the Premier League will name Liverpool as champions. The paper claims that there is little opposition to it from rival clubs, given the Reds’ lead.
Liverpool are currently 25 points clear at the top of the table and would only need to win their next scheduled game to become champions.
But it now seems that, should the season need to cease, clubs would be comfortable with Liverpool having the title.
Now, it’s hardly the way the club would have wanted things to go. But no team has ever earned a title this early, in truth, and there was every chance that results this weekend would have confirmed things. Liverpool are as close to being guaranteed champions as you can get.
The suspension makes things complicated, however. They may have to take what they can get but if that means being champions, you can bet that everyone will take it.
