Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp delivered a message to fans on Friday after the Premier League’s suspension. He found the perfect tone.

The Reds’ boss moved to get the team’s point of view across in light of the current situation, one that affects Liverpool football club greatly.
The Premier League officially suspended fixtures on Friday. They hope to resume as early as April but that’s currently up in the air – there’s a real chance the season doesn’t finish.
And if that is the case, what happens to Liverpool’s title pursuit? Well, no one really knows. They could void the entire season or keep standings as they are.
Fans are frustrated, seeing as this season is Liverpool’s 30-year wait for the English title finally coming to an end. And yet they may not win it – it’s entirely possible that no one does.
So that’s the environment in which Klopp put out this message. One of frustration and great uncertainty for his club and its fans.
And Klopp got it spot on as he pointed out that football takes a backseat to everything else going on right now. It really isn’t important.
“I’ve said before that football always seems the most important of the least important things,” he wrote. “Today, football and football matches really aren’t important at all.
“Of course, we don’t want to play in front of an empty stadium and we don’t want games or competitions suspended, but if doing so helps one individual stay healthy – just one – we do it no questions asked.
“If it’s a choice between football and the good of the wider society, it’s no contest. Really, it isn’t.”
No right-minded person could argue with any of that. A lot of people’s lives are at risk right now and the country should take any precautions necessary. Even if that means no long-awaited league title.
