Last night Liverpool crashed out of the Champions League at home to Atletico Madrid. The Reds absolutely battered their opponents and thoroughly deserved to go through but they were cruelly robbed by a goalkeeping error and an archaic away goal rule. One man saved the visitors more than most, Liverpool fans have been full of praise for Jan Oblak.
The Reds are licking their wounds this morning, having once again had their Champions League hopes dashed by goalkeeping blunders.
Adrian can’t be blamed entirely, he was never meant to play tonight – he was brought in as a backup we never thought we’d need.
Kopites have every right to be optimistic about the future following that performance. The outfield players couldn’t have done anymore, they absolutely dominated the game and should have progressed – you just can’t legislate for some things in football.
One thing you can’t legislate for is two goalkeepers have such contrasting games. Liverpool fans will be seeing Jan Oblak in their nightmares, the Slovenian put on a masterclass, pulling out nine saves to keep his side in the tie.
If they didn’t have their first choice keeper then it would have been a slaughter.
This Red appreciated that their shot stopper is in the same echelon as our own.
Him and Allison are a different class

One fan said he has huge respect for the Slovenian, saying that he was the difference between the sides.
Huge respect to him despite how frustrated I still am this morning. One of the best in the world. Adrian isn’t and not even close. We missed Alisson I’d an understatement. But we should have won the game in normal time with our chances.

However, one supporter believes that we made it a bit too easy for him.
Most of these are poor finishes, we weren’t good enough in front of goal

RedMenTV believe that it was a tale of two goalkeepers last night.
Such a shame after dominating for 90 minutes. A combination of poor finishing, Oblak being outstanding and errors on our behalf cost us.
We aren’t used to losing and it hurts. Slate Atletico for their tactics or style of play, but it worked.
Onto the Premier League.

This fan believes that Oblak is the most underrated keeper in the world.

But what else can we do but chalk it up to ‘that’s football’?
Well, that’s football and you don’t always get what you deserve. Chamberlain was great. Gini too. Their keeper was an absolute brick wall. He’s to them what Alisson is to Liverpool and that showed. If they didn’t have #oblak tonight then we’d have smashed them off the park.
