Liverpool’s first team is uniquely positioned in that it is the strongest in the world and it doesn’t need any major overhaul for at least a few years. The Reds have tied down their squad to long term contracts and they each have some time left at their peak. With this in mind the club are looking to the future, Nieuwsblad has claimed that Liverpool will go back in for Jeremy Doku in 2021.

Doku is the latest ‘next best thing’ to come out of Belgium.

The 17-year-old winger joined Anderlecht aged 10 and has been impressing at every youth level.

Nieuwsblad has previously reported comments from the player’s father that The Reds came close to signing the winger back in 2018.

The winger’s dad said that the family visited the club’s training ground and Jürgen Klopp told him that Liverpool see Jeremy Doku as a potential successor for Sadio Mane.

The teenager has represented Belgium as high as U21 level despite being just 17-years-old, such is his potential. He can play on either wing and has nailed down a starting position in the first team since the new year.

In his last game he netted twice for Anderlecht, in total he has three goals this season, coming in 14 starts and seven substitute appearances.

According to Nieuwsblad, Liverpool will come back in for Jeremy Doku in 2021, with Anderlecht willing to accept an offer around £17.5m.

What RTK has to say

The boy’s clearly got talent.

To be turning out regularly for a top flight first team at the age of 17 is some feat. The young lad has a bright future ahead of him and given that we apparently already had a crack at him we would be surprised to see this one get away.

A fee of £17.5m is buttons in today’s market, if he is the long term successor to Sadio Mane then we could have a bargain on our hands.
