Kieran Trippier warns Atletico Madrid teammates about 'intimidating' Anfield

Liverpool are in familiar territory this evening. The Reds head into the second leg of a Champions League tie having to make up a deficit, knowing that they can rely on the home crowd to put the fear of God into the opposition. The Reds are sure to put up a fight, we know that. Kieran Trippier has warned his Atletico Madrid teammates about the ‘intimidating’ Anfield atmosphere.

Atletico Madrid signed Trippier last summer in a £20m deal.

Since moving to the Spanish capital he has been in solid form despite missing nine games with a groin strain. WhoScored.com has given him an average rating of 7.02 in the league.

Previous to the move, the right back had plied his trade at Spurs, meaning he has plenty of experience of visiting Anfield.

His time in front of the Kop is stuck in his mind and he is clearly mindful of the influence the crowd are likely to exert on Wednesday’s second leg tie, the Daily Star has quoted Trippier as saying of Anfield:

“Anfield is one of the best stadiums to play in, the fans are amazing. I have talked with my teammates about the atmosphere there.

“They will try to be as intimidating as possible, but we have to go with a mentality to qualify.”

What RTK has to say

Straight into these, Reds.

Trippier is right to be scared of Anfield. The Kop will be in full voice throughout the game, we have dragged the side over the line before and we’ll be ready to do it again.

Atletico’s squad squandered a two goal lead at this stage last season, they’ll be heading into the Anfield cauldron with that collapse at the back of their minds. If they wilt, it could be a cricket score.
