Liverpool have shown themselves in recent years to be the most pragmatic club in the transfer market. The Reds have sold high and bought low in order to build a side that his currently smashing records for fun domestically. According to Sport in Spain, Liverpool would ‘value’ re-signing Philippe Coutinho, one of their very best sales.
Liverpool sold Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona in 2018, charging the Spanish giants £142m for the Brazilian.
The playmaker never lived up to expectations at the Camp Nou – what a shame!
Philly failed to establish himself as the creative force that they had bought, a season after his departure he was knocked out of the Champions League by his former club and went on to watch The Reds lift the trophy in Madrid.
The Catalonian club have sought to get some of their money back on the player, he is currently on loan at Bayern Munich with the Bavarian club retaining the option to make the move permanent should they wish.
However, he has failed to prove himself in the German Bundesliga and Barcelona are now preparing themselves for having to shift him elsewhere.
Sport in Spain have claimed that Liverpool are ‘interested’ in bringing Coutinho back to Anfield and they would ‘value’ his signing should they pull it off.
What RTK has to say
This is a difficult transfer to consider.
Sentimentally it doesn’t make sense, to take him back after he forced his way out would send the wrong message.
However, practicality trumps sentiment in football – he is still a fantastic footballer and he would likely rediscover his best form should he link up with Jürgen Klopp again.
There is also the consideration of the transfer fee, Barcelona would want to recoup as much money as they can when moving him on – The Reds won’t be prepared to spend that sort of money.
We just can’t see it happening but we wouldn’t be mad if it did.
