This summer Liverpool are sure to strengthen the squad in a number of areas with a handful of players also expected to leave the club. Who will arrive at Anfield is anybody’s guess, The Reds have prided themselves on conducting their business in silence in recents reasons. James Pearce has made a claim recently which could point to a more ambitious move.

Speaking on the Red Agenda podcast, Pearce discussed The Reds’ reported pursuit of Todd Cantwell.

The respect journo told the show:

“I wouldn’t describe [Cantwell] as a top target, he is certainly someone that they’ve watched and heavily scouted but I am not aware of them planning to make a move for him at the moment.”

With Adam Lallana expected to leave in the summer and Xherdan Shaqiri also rumoured to be heading for an exit, there will certainly be midfield reinforcements brought in.

James Pearce claiming that Cantwell isn’t a top target could point towards a more ambitious move in centre midfield.

The one player that Kopites likely want more than others in the middle is Kai Havertz.

The German wonderkid is destined to spark a bidding war in the summer and he is an ideal Jürgen Klopp player.

Havertz has an eye for a pass as well as for goal but he also finds himself working from box to box – if the boss could build a player they would probably turn out very similar to Havertz.

The question isn’t will Liverpool sign a midfielder, the question is which midfielder will Liverpool sign.

Our preference is Kai Havertz but there are half a dozen other candidates out there, we will be watching this space intently.
