Liverpool have produced some spectacular footballers over the years. Be it Steven Gerrard or Michael Owen, Jamie Carragher or Trent Alexander-Arnold – Kopites have been treated to some world class local heroes. With another youngster showing great promise, Alexander-Arnold will benefit from Neco Williams showing strong form.

The Reds are incredibly lucky at the minute.

Jürgen Klopp has the best right back in the world and that right back is just 21-years-old.

Further to that, he has a right back coming through the academy who is already playing well enough to justify starting at most Premier League sides – he showed this against Everton and Arsenal.

One issue that The Reds have had in the last couple of seasons is that whilst Trent has been developing into a world beating wing back, revolutionising the role, he has had no semblance of competition.

The Scouser has held the position undisputed for a couple of seasons now. Whilst this is great for his game time, it is healthy for any player to have competition.

Competition is what keeps players on their toes, it is what keeps them striving for better so that they don’t lose their place in the side.

This is why Alexander-Arnold will benefit from Neco Williams showing such strong form recently.

The 18-year-old Welsh full back has been showing himself to be ready for first team action, meaning that by the start of next season we can expect him to not be challenging for a starting berth but certainly putting pressure on Trent.

Knowing that Jürgen Klopp has a backup at his disposal will only motivate the best full back in the world even further.
