Liverpool are defending champions of Europe, they’ve got one of the strongest squads, if not the strongest squad in the world. When The Reds lose, questions are inevitably asked as to how they can stop that from happening again. A report from Cadena Ser in Spain has claimed that Liverpool are looking at Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid.
In February we saw Atletico beat Liverpool 1-0 at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Liverpool learned first hand just how important Thomas Partey is to a midfield.
The versatile Ghanaian is adept as a centre midfielder as well as a right back.
He has started 21 games for Atletico Madrid in La Liga this season, notching two goals.
However, goals aren’t his thing. Partey is a master reader of the game, he intercepts everything and crunches opposition players with his aggressive yet precise tackling.
According to Cadena Ser, Liverpool and Manchester United are interested in buying Thomas Partey, with the player allegedly having a release clause of €50m.
What RTK has to say
This would be a fantastic signing for Liverpool.
His work rate is impressive, as his ability to keep the ball. He wins it like Fabinho and holds onto it like Gini Wijnaldum.
Further to that, Partey offers the versatility that Jürgen Klopp values so highly.
The fact that the Ghanaian can fill it at right back when needed would prove invaluable to the gaffer with Nathaniel Clyne certain to leave at the end of the season.
With rumours of Gini Wijnaldum potentially heading off in the next couple of years, Partey could arrive as a replacement for the Dutchman.
