Jurgen Klopp made a correct prediction ahead of the West Ham United meeting on Monday and has made the same before Watford.
Liverpool v West Ham didn’t look like a complex game. The Reds are soaring high at the top of the Premier League, after all, while the Hammers sit in the relegation zone.
That’s not how Klopp saw it, though.
“We need a really good atmosphere again and not kind of this perception that you go there and think, ‘OK, 1-0 after seven minutes, 2-0 after 25 and then it’s easy-going’. It will not be like this,” he said, per the official club site. Before adding: “I expect a really, really tough match, 100 per cent.”
Now, it was actually 1-0 after nine minutes, no seven but we can excuse him that. But he was absolutely right about it being a tough game. West Ham equalised a few minutes later and then took the lead early in the second half. Liverpool had to fight hard for this one.
And Klopp expects much the same against Watford as against West Ham.
“Watford will be really tough, 100 per cent,” he said in his pre-match conference, per Liverpoolfc.com. “Very physical and everybody will see how much it means to them, so we have to make sure everybody can see how much it means to us as well.
“This game will be tough. I said it, 100 per cent, you will see it. I don’t want to say it and then we will win there 6-0 – it will not happen.”
And so anyone expecting a walkover against the Premier League’s 19th best side should probably think again. Klopp told us the West Ham game would be harder than it looks and he’s saying the same here.
It’ll be another test of Liverpool’s credentials as they look to set records this season. But make no mistake – this would be three points earned, not given.
