Didi Hamann not optimistic about Liverpool chances

Liverpool aren’t used to losing. You can count on just one hand the amount of games The Reds have failed to win this season. Unfortunately, one of these games was a first leg loss to Atletico Madrid. Istanbul hero Didi Hamann isn’t optimistic about Liverpool overturning the deficit in the second leg.

Hamann has a complicated legacy at Anfield.

The retired German midfielder was one of the heroes of Istanbul back in 2005.

It was Didi Hamann’s introduction that helped quell the tide of AC Milan attacks, he changed the game.

However, since his retirement he has been embroiled in controversy – who can forget his public spat with Jamie Carragher which culminated in the Scouser revealing that he’d bailed Didi out of a ‘Tokyo nick’.

Speaking to Goal, Hamann has discussed the chances Liverpool have going into their second leg with Atletico Madrid, he told the outlet:

“It will be difficult for Liverpool after the defeat at Atletico.

“After winning 4-0 in the second leg last season against Barcelona [in the semi-finals], everyone thinks they can do it, but they didn’t have a single shot on goal in Madrid.”

What RTK has to say

Nobody said it’d be easy Didi.

The Reds will certainly be doing it the hard way in March with them knowing they have to score twice to avoid extra time, whilst also avoiding a deadly away goal.

We have overcome greater odds in Europe before. The Reds have turned ties on their head against Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona during the Jürgen Klopp era.

Rescuing this one goal deficit against Atletico shouldn’t be as big a task as the four we needed against Barca. We are still favourites to progress.
