Last night saw RB Leipzig put themselves into a 1-0 lead in their Champions League Round of 16 with Spurs. The German side scored a second half pen to gain an away goal advantage. Timo Werner showed against Spurs just why he is perfect for Liverpool.
The Reds have been linked with a move for Werner for years.
The 23-year-old striker has been having the season of his life so far having scored 20 goals in 22 Bundesliga games, picking up six assists along the way.
In the Champions League he has bagged four goals and an assist in six starts, Timo Werner scored his latest European goal against Spurs last night.
Although it took a second half penalty for him to get his goal on the night, Werner could have had a hat trick.
Throughout the game we saw the German striker show just why he would fit in perfectly at Liverpool.
The forward was tenacious out of possession and demonstrated electric pace when making his forward runs. Determined pressing is a hallmark of Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
He also consistently found himself in dangerous positions, although his composure was lacking at times he still impressed with his attacking instincts.
Perhaps the most telling aspect of his game was his linkup play, the second half saw a delectable piece of football when he dummied the ball through his legs to give his teammate a clear cut chance in front of goal.
If Werner does end up at Liverpool he will need to be able to link up with the forwards around him: one of the reasons that The Reds have been so successful is the telepathic understanding between Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah.
Fingers crossed Werner will be able to tune into their frequency and we will have an attacking quartet for the ages.
