Liverpool can’t win every game sadly. The Reds lost to Atletico Madrid this week in a game that saw a lucky, early goal and a stoic defence thereafter. Despite the 1-0 lead the Spanish side have, here are three reasons Liverpool are still favourites to beat Atletico Madrid:
You simply can never write off The Reds when they need a result at Anfield on a European night.
Last season saw arguably the best ever Champions League come back as Liverpool put four past Barcelona to secure a place in the Madrid final.
Kopites will be making a din in order to drag their side over the line. With just a goal in it we will be hoping for the Anfield atmosphere to distract the visitors from the first whistle, a goal as early as Divock Origi’s against Barcelona would calm the nerves.
The German gaffer has never lost a two legged knockout tie whilst in charge of Liverpool, we have reached the final of every European competition he has managed us in.
During this run the boss has learned a lot of lessons and has had to chase a few ties that seemed to be lost causes, Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund are just two opponents that threw away leads against Jürgen Klopp.
It’s three weeks until the second leg at Anfield.
Whilst Atletico Madrid managed to shut out The Reds at the Wanda Metropolitano, Jürgen Klopp now has nearly a month to analyse their defensive shape and pick holes in it.
If you couple the ferocity of playing under the Anfield lights with the careful study of Klopp then we can expect the Atletico defence to not find it as easy keeping The Reds at bay next time out.
