This January was a ponderous one for Liverpool with one bargain buy in Takumi Minamino and one mysterious addition in Joe Hardy. It was a more frustrating window for Newcastle United as their potential record signing turned them down. Liverpool could have been handed a boost in their hopes of signing Boubakary Soumare with the Lille manager admitting there is tension between him and the club.
According to the BBC, Soumare turned down Newcastle in January.
The 20-year-old Lille defensive midfielder is enjoying an ever growing reputation at the Stade Pierre Mauroy.
He has been linked with all and sundry in the past few months, Le10 Sport have claimed the youngster is keen on a move to the Premier League with Manchester United or Liverpool his preferred destination.
Express Sport have reported that is wanted by an even wider range of clubs, including: Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and AC Milan.
Following the player being dropped at the weekend, his manager, Christoph Galtier, confessed to L’Equipe:
“There is a situation at the club that I do not comment on.
“In seasons, there can be tension between a player and his club. We’ll settle this internally and find a solution.”
What RTK has to say
Do we want the most talented youngsters in the game? Of course.
Do we want youngsters that cause rifts at their club? Absolutely not.
Attitude has been one of the key driving forces of Liverpool’s success this season. Without the right attitude we wouldn’t have a squad that are treating this season as 38 cup finals in the Premier League.
Sure, causing a rift at a club because you’re desperate to join The Reds is different to causing a rift because you’re always late to training but it is concerning nonetheless.
If Liverpool sign Boubakary Soumare he could well be a replacement for Gini Wijnaldum, we would much rather keep the Dutchman around.
However, this is of course good news if The Reds are determined to bring the youngster in – he certainly appears to be heading for the door.
