This weekend saw Liverpool record their 17th straight win as they edged past Norwich at Carrow Road. The Canaries fought bravely but were ultimately bested by the brilliance of Sadio Mane. Speaking after the game ex-Norwich defender Russell Martin heaped praise on the ‘special’ Sadio Mane.
The Reds were made to work hard for the three points at the weekend.
Jürgen Klopp’s men utterly dominated the game with 63% of possession and 17 shots but the hosts were stubborn in defence.
It took an inch perfect Jordan Henderson pass and a world class Sadio Mane first touch, spin and finish to separate the two sides.
Speaking on Sky Sports Premier League (15/02/20 at 7:35 pm) after the game, Russell Martin was full of praise for Sadio Mane, saying:
“It’s a special goal from a special player. Sometimes you have to hold your hands up and say ‘moments like that deserve to win football matches’.
“Max [Aarons] actually sees [Mane’s run]. 9 times out of 10 against most players, Max actually drops in, follow the run and he gets there. But that touch is so special, and I believe only a few players can do that in football now.”
What RTK has to say
Russell Martin is bang on with his assessment of Sadio Mane, there are few players in the world capable of doing what he does.
This weekend saw the Senegalese forward serve us with yet another reminder as to why he is regarded as a front runner for the PFA Player of the Year award.
As long as the African Player of the Year maintains his blistering form The Reds should find retaining their Champions League crown much easier than first thought.
With Tuesday’s tie with Atletico Madrid sure to see another miserly defence face up against Liverpool, seeing Sadio pull out a moment of magic is encouraging.
