The Liverpool defence has become impassable since it settled down in early December. Although The Reds were still winning every game before the festive period they had been without a settled defence due to injuries. According to reports in Italy, Liverpool could add Marash Kumbulla to their impressive defence.
20-year-old Kumbulla currently plays as a centre back for Italian Serie A side Verona.
The Albanian has made 17 appearances in the league this season, scoring once and registering five clean sheets.
According to a report in Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Sport Witness), Liverpool are tracking Marash Kumbulla along with a host of European clubs.
The two Manchester sides, as well as Borussia Dortmund, are said to be interested in the young defender.
The Italian outlet claim that Verona currently value their centre half at €30m but that valuation could rise should he maintain his high level of performance.
Verona are flying high in the Serie A this season, sitting in sixth place.
What RTK has to say
Liverpool being interested in Marash Kumbulla makes sense to an extent.
The Albanian only turned 20-years-old earlier this month so he certainly fits the age bracket that Michael Edwards is looking towards.
With Dejan Lovren likely to leave the club in the summer we can expect either Sepp van den Berg or Ki-Jana Hoever to step up, or else The Reds may bring in another young defender.
At €30m he could prove a relative snip given his age and the form he is in. However, with a number of sides reportedly interested, The Reds are unlikely to want to be drawn into an auction.
If the youngster maintains his form then Michael Edwards may well come knocking in the summer.
