This Liverpool side are unstoppable at the moment. The Reds are 22 points clear at the top of the table and the first team are tied down to long term contracts. To add to the excitement, there are a number of exciting youth players breaking through – Neil Critchley has recently heaped praise on Neco Williams following his FA Cup exploits.
Williams has been a revelation in the cups this season.
The teenaged Welshman has been starting at right back in the League Cup and FA Cup.
After impressive showings against Arsenal and Everton we saw the full back pick up an assist in each leg of the FA Cup ties with Shrewsbury Town – admittedly both own goals.
Speaking to the official club site, Neil Critchley was full of praise for Neco Williams, saying of his recent Anfield performance against Shrewsbury:
“I thought he was incredible on the evening. He was everywhere on the pitch, he was defending, intercepting, running forward and you’d have to say he was also probably our most dangerous attacker from full-back.
“He had three or four shots at goal and I thought he was fantastic. Neco’s best quality is his humility, he is still the same boy he was a few months ago and he has always been the same.”
What RTK has to say
Neil Critchley is bang on the money saying that Neco Williams was our best attacker on the night.
The Welshman was seemingly everywhere and his style of play mimicked that of Trent Alexander-Arnold.
It couldn’t be more encouraging seeing the ways in which the teenager mirrors our first choice right back – for instance the winning goal was as result of a long pass that we have seen Trent make a thousand times.
The future is bright for The Reds with the academy producing such strong talents.
