Liverpool are in a great position as a club at the moment. The first team are without competition in the league and the youth academy is churning out talented youngsters with ease. After the U23s knocked out Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup, Leighton Clarkson has opened up about his Anfield debut and the influence of James Milner.
The Reds win in the FA Cup over Shrewsbury Town was incredibly impressive.
With the first team recused from duty due to the Premier League winter break, Neil Critchley and his U23 side took their place in the replay.
The kids dominated the game and did enough to progress to the next round, the 1-0 scoreline flattered the visitors.
Speaking to the club site about his debut, Leighton Clarkson heaped praise on James Milner, saying:

“James Milner was in the dressing room and spoke to us and told us there was nothing to worry about.
“He has got the experience and knows what to say at the right times…After the game he was celebrating more than most of us! That’s just how he is and he was a massive help”
What RTK has to say
Although press attention for his attendance at the game is the last thing James Milner would have wanted, he has found himself showered with plaudits for the character he showed throughout the tie.
We felt that he demonstrated that he has what it takes to be on the Liverpool coaching staff in the not so distant future, to hear Leighton Clarkson praising Milner for the boost he gave the players only furthers his credentials.
Fingers crossed we manage to keep ahold of Milly into the future, he has made more appearances for Liverpool than any other club – it would be a shame to lose him after he retires from playing.
