Reports claims Liverpool are ‘desperate’ to sign Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz. We have a look at three reasons that may be.
The Express make the claim. They say that the German is Jurgen Klopp’s ‘top target’ for a summer move. Not that they’re the first to make the link.

The Independent said last week that Liverpool wanted Havertz but didn’t rate him at the £80m Bayer supposedly want. So it certainly looks as though the Reds have interest.
Here are three reasons why:
His achievements already
Havertz is still only 20 years old but he’s a name most know by now. This is already his fourth Bundesliga season and he’s the youngest to ever make 100 appearances in the German top-flight. In that time, Havertz has scored over 30 goals – including 20 last season.
No wonder, then, that Liverpool are supposedly ‘desperate’ for Havertz. Absolutely everyone should be excited about the German. Not just for what he can do now but for what he might become.
Goals from midfield
Liverpool’s midfield only really lacks one thing and it’s goals. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain leads the way with seven – although, he also plays on the wing. After him it’s James Milner with four, but he takes penalties. Naby Keita, Gini Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson are all one three.
So while they’ll all chip in with a goal every now and then, Liverpool can’t rely on any of them. Havertz, however, is different. He bagged 20 last season and while he isn’t matching that this campaign, he’s proven he can deliver goals from midfield. And that’s a great weapon to have.

The next generation
Liverpool need to think about their next era, particularly in midfield. Both Wijnaldum and Henderson are 29 now and only have a couple more years at the top level. It’s a similar situation with the front-three, too. Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane will both be 28 before next season. Roberto Firmino is already there.
So Liverpool will have to find new stars for when these ones fade. And Havertz, with everything he’s shown before turning 21, fits the bill perfectly.
