This summer saw no major incomings or outgoings at Anfield. The Reds brought in Adrian and Andy Lonergan to backup Alisson Becker, and Harvey Elliott and Sepp van den Berg to bolster the side of tomorrow. In a recent interview with the BBC, Adrian has praised the Liverpool fans at Anfield when he made his home debut.

Liverpool signed Adrian on a free transfer at the start of the season.

The Spanish keeper’s contract with West Ham had expired and the keeper was recommended to goalkeeping coach John Achterberg by Aaron Cresswell.

Creswell had previously spent time with Achterberg at Tranmere Rovers.

When Alisson Becker limped off early on in The Reds’ opening game of the Premier League season, Adrian was thrust into his home Liverpool debut much sooner than expected.

The shot stopper recalled the match, telling the BBC that Jürgen Klopp “spoke softly in his ear: ‘Welcome to Anfield.'”

The Spaniard continued: “I felt like the schoolboy who has to introduce himself in front of his new classmates, but what can I say about Anfield?”

“The way the fans embraced me in such a critical moment, losing one of their best players. They gave me total confidence.”

What RTK has to say

Many players have recalled the magic of the Anfield atmosphere, Adrian is the latest in a long line of players to open up about the boost the Liverpool fans can give a player.

Thankfully, the Spaniard repaid the faith shown in him by the Kop.

Adrian was our first choice keeper for two months whilst Alisson was recovering and he barely put a foot wrong throughout his stint in the net.

Kopites are now secure in the knowledge that if we are ever without Ali for a period of time we can rely on Adrian to keep the ball out in his absence.
