The Reds signed Gini from a relegated Newcastle United in 2016. The Dutchman cost the club £25m.

When Gini arrived at Anfield he was an aggressively attacking, goal scoring midfielder.

Under Jürgen Klopp’s tutelage he has been transformed into a tenacious box-to-box player that is adept at winning the ball and keeping it.

Gini’s work rate has been crucial to the implementation of the gaffer’s intense pressing system, his work rate has also made him a fan favourite on The Kop.

What RTK has to say

If Liverpool get Gini Wijnaldum signed up to a new contract then it could be one of our most important signings of the season.

The Dutchman is one of the most vital players in Jürgen Klopp’s midfield, his determination constantly rattles the opposition – often forcing mistakes.

With the midfielder being the last key cog of the machine not signed up to a long term contract, his extension would be a massive statement of intent by the club: these Domineering Reds are here to stay.
