Harvey Elliott is an incredibly exciting talent but there are three players in Liverpool’s young team who are more ready to take the step up.
The 16-year-old can undoubtedly make it at Liverpool. Elliott’s talent is there for all to see and he looks sharp every time he’s on the pitch. But Elliott is still only 16 – there are at least three players in that young Liverpool team who are ready to step up first.

Curtis Jones
The most obvious talent and a player who looks like the next big thing. Jones is hugely promising and seems to have the mentality as well as the talent.
A couple of years older than Elliott, there even appears to be a place in the first-team squad waiting for Jones. We could see him as a first-team squad regular before long.
Neco Williams
England and Wales are reportedly already courting the right-back, despite him not playing a single senior league game. But you can fully understand why.
Williams looked good every time he played in the cup for Liverpool. He ticks every box that the team would want from a full-back and has even produced from there.
He set up Divock Origi’s last-minute equaliser against Arsenal, while Shrewsbury Town’s own goal was from Williams’ cross. The only thing standing in his way is Trent Alexander-Arnold. But that might work out well, too.
Pedro Chirivella
Chirivella has been at Liverpool since 2013 but is only now really breaking through. He looks like a very useful player, however.

The Spaniard is 22 years old but appears very assured in the middle of midfield. That’s not easy, either, as that holding role is a difficult one to play. Especially in a very young, inexperienced side.
But Chirivella always looks composed, despite any apparent pressure on him. We believe he deserves a new contract – while he may fill any void left by Adam Lallana.
