Reports suggest there’s a lot of interest in Adam Lallana right now. That’s a huge compliment to Liverpool’s squad and how they built it.
The Telegraph claim Leicester City lead the race for the 31-year-old. But they’re hardly the only ones. They also say that West Ham United, as well as former ‘Big Six’ rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, want Lallana.
The truth is, Liverpool don’t really need Lallana anymore. He was once a key member of the team – arguably the key member, period. But injuries, arrivals, and form have pushed Lallana way down the pecking order.
While his pressing and ball retention once set him apart and made him invaluable after his £25m arrival, he’s now only started three Premier League games. That’s not even really a criticism of Lallana as the Liverpool midfield has pushed on significantly.
And you can see how far that midfield has come simply by looking at the interest in Lallana.
Leicester, the third-best team in the country want him for their midfield. As do Spurs, a Champions League side, and Arsenal, a team hoping to get back there.
These are top sides with plenty of options available to them. And yet here they are, apparently hoping to sign a player Liverpool don’t particularly need.
A player good enough to start just three Premier League games, let’s not forget.
Lallana is a very useful player and would be good for any of those sides mentioned. And the fact that he can be at that level and still not get into Liverpool’s side is a huge compliment to the Reds.
