The Reds are absolutely miles ahead. 22 points ahead to be exact. A new table has highlighted the Liverpool dominance.
In a new analysis by ESPN, if Liverpool were split into Liverpool Home and Liverpool Away, the home side would still sit fourth, the away side would be ninth – ahead of Everton.
This table throws up a number of interesting comparisons.
Firstly, the Anfield Reds would be closer to Manchester City than Manchester City are to Liverpool now.
Secondly, of course, the Away Reds would still be above their noisy neighbours Everton.
This table is the perfect illustration of the Liverpool dominance we are seeing at the moment.
The Reds have been near perfect home and away, they’ve been so incredible that with only half their games they would be ahead of their local rivals.
The Reds Away would also be just one win from a Champions League spot.
We have never seen this level of superiority in English football and it’ll likely be a while before we do again.
The question is now, how do Liverpool maintain their dominance?
As highlighted by Melissa Reddy in The Independent, sticking to the principles that have gotten the club this far is critical.
If Liverpool want to remain at the top they need to avoid any major reshuffling of the squad.
The first XI are all tied down to long term contracts and it is a few seasons before key players will need replacing.
In some areas we already have academy prospects pushing through that should be ready to step up when the time comes: Harvey Elliott will be waiting in the wings (literally) and Neco Williams could step up and allow Trent Alexander-Arnold to take over from Jordan Henderson in the midfield.
