The Reds have been linked with every talented youngster in the world for the last year or two. With Michael Edwards showing a predilection for potential, the media have been insisting on his interest in the game’s most talented kids. According to a report by Melissa Reddy at The Independent – Liverpool are interested in Kai Havertz but value him at less than half Leverkusen’s £80m asking price.

Liverpool have been reported to be after Kai Havertz since he started banging them in in the German Bundesliga.

Last season saw the 20-year-old midfielder net 17 goals in 33 starts.

This campaign has been leaner for the wonderkid, he has scored four in 17 so far this season for Leverkusen.

According to Melissa Reddy, the Anfield recruitment team are incredibly interested in the youngster but the finances don’t add up.

Rudi Voller is thought to want “upwards of £80m” for the midfielder but this is said to be double what Michael Edwards believes his market value to be.

What RTK has to say

This is great news if anything.

Liverpool have been incredibly successful in the transfer market in recent seasons because they have avoided paying over the odds – they won’t be paying “hype premiums” such as the one slapped on Kai Havertz.

The fact that they are put off by his price tag shows that they aren’t willing to compromise the principles which have served them so well in recent seasons.

There is also the consideration that we don’t need Havertz, he would be a welcome addition but we don’t need to break from our transfer policy for him.

We have already resolved the glaring issues we had: left back, centre defence and in goal. We are in a good spot now, there’s no need to spend extravagantly.
