With the senior team (hopefully) off sunning themselves on some secluded beach away from the stresses of their brilliance, the responsibility of the FA Cup has fallen on Liverpool’s youth. Neco Williams and Yasser Larouci must put in strong performances – they could save us a lot of money in the long term.
At the minute Liverpool have no natural cover for either of their full backs.
Nathaniel Clyne has been injured seemingly forever whilst Alberto Moreno left the club over the summer.
Of course, the lack of depth at full back needs to be addressed.
However, with such good youth prospects breaking through the club may turn to the academy rather than the transfer market.
If Neco Williams and Yasser Larouci put in a strong performance against Shrewsbury Town they could give the management team more faith in picking them as rotation or cover options.
Of course, Larouci may not even take part against Shrewsbury Town as his fitness is in doubt.
This means that we could see Adam Lewis take the left back spot, he was long thought to be the successor to Andy Robertson until Larouci began asserting himself.
Neco Williams is perhaps, aside from Curtis Jones, the closest of any youth player to breaking into the first team.
As the season drags on and The Reds wrap up the league early and contend the Champions League midweek we could see Williams giving Trent a rest from time to time.
One of the first steps to claiming a place when the Premier League becomes a moot point is a strong performance in the cup. Williams and Larouci were incredibly impressive against Everton, they’ll be looking to rediscover that form under the Anfield lights.
