This weekend saw Liverpool extend their lead at the top to a ridiculous 22 points. The Reds are nailed on to walk to Premier League glory. Liverpool could have also scored a goal of the season contender at the weekend but were denied by the offside flag.
It was another imperious display from Jürgen Klopp’s side this Saturday.
Liverpool ran out 4-0 winners over a spirited Southampton side at Anfield.
The Reds managed to keep out the attacking Saints on a number of occasions before firing four in in the second half.
Liverpool could have scored the goal of the season against the visitors but Mo Salah was marginally offside. The flag snatched away what had been a glorious team move.
With The Reds under pressure at the back, the ball was eventually stabbed back to Alisson with the keeper in turn finding a marked Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The Scouser turned the ball round the corner and less than ten seconds later, after a few first time passes, The Reds were baring down on the Southampton goal.
Mo Salah was slipped through and he tucked away a smart finish before being pulled up. The video is available on PlanetFootball, most could have missed the goal given that The Reds weren’t on UK television this weekend and Match of the Day ignored the clip.
This almost-goal is a perfect example of how The Reds are more than just 1-0 merchants.
Even though a lot of the side’s success is down to their gritty determination getting them over the line, they have also been playing beautiful flowing football.
The one touch passing, the trust in each other, the vision and the movement of this goal are testament to the flair and style of this generational side.
We are lucky to watch these Reds.
