One of the keys to Liverpool’s success in recent seasons has been the remarkable ability of Jürgen Klopp and his medical team to keep key players fit for the duration of the season. Of course there have been blips here and there – we’ve just been handed another knock as Jürgen Klopp has confirmed that Sadio Mane will miss the next two games through injury.
Mane has been in scintillating form this season.
The Senegalese winger has netted 13 goals in all competitions this season, regularly coming up with the goods when The Reds looked set to be frustrated.
His importance to the team has undeniably grown this season as he has shouldered the match winning responsibility on more than one occasion, the last minute penalty he won against Leicester City will be a defining moment of Liverpool’s triumph.
We saw Sadio limp off in his last Premier League game, Takumi Minamino replaced him after 33 minutes as The Reds edged past Wolves in a 2-1 victory.
Klopp told journalists that the Mane injury will sideline him until after the winter break, informing his pre-match press conference:
“Sadio will not be involved for West Ham and probably not Southampton. After that he will be back on track. He has a small muscle tear which is serious enough. We were lucky with it though it wasn’t too serious. He’s out for three games.”
What RTK has to say
Luckily for Kopites, West Ham and Southampton aren’t our toughest tests.
The Hammers are struggling in the league this season and David Moyes is unlikely to be the man to nick points off this Red Machine.
Southampton will journey to Anfield without much hope, the ground has become a fortress in recent times – The Reds haven’t lost at home since 2017.
We can expect Takumi Minamino or Divock Origi to fill in for the forward during his absence.
