Steve Nicol urges Maddison to choose Liverpool over Manchester United

There are few ways to improve this Liverpool side. The Reds are 16 points clear at the top with a game in hand over Manchester City in second place. They are unbeaten since last January and have been smashing records for fun…but they could do with more goals from midfield. Steve Nicol has urged the much sought after James Maddison to choose Liverpool over Manchester United.

Maddison has been having a star turn season at Leicester City.

The English playmaker has flourished under tutelage of Brendan Rodgers.

Maddison has already registered six goals in the league this campaign whilst he totalled seven last season.

The attacking midfielder has also notched three assists for the high flying Foxes.

With Manchester United set to spend big in the summer to sort out the mess at Old Trafford, the Red Devils have been linked with a megabucks move for the Leicester City playmaker.

In December The Metro reported that the Lancashire club are considering an £80m move for the 23-year-old.

Ex-Liverpool defender Steve Nicol has urged Maddison to snub Manchester United in favour of Liverpool, telling ESPN:

“The bottom line is, is it going to benefit this guy going to United right now? I don’t think it would. I think it would help him to keep playing in the way he has at Leicester.”

“I’d suggest if I’m him, I hang around and wait. Wait for a Liverpool or a Manchester City.”

What RTK has to say

Signing James Maddison would make a lot of sense for Liverpool.

The Leicester City midfielder has bags of potential at just 23-years-old and has proven that he can perform in the Premier League.

The Foxes star would also help add goals from midfield, something that The Reds have been missing since the departure of Philippe Coutinho.

However, £80m would be a massive break from previous transfer policy which has seen Michael Edwards buy up diamonds in the rough at bargain prices.

The likelihood is that United will go out and outbid The Reds, though we can rest assured that Edwards and co will have somebody else special lined up.
