The Reds have transformed in recent seasons. Jürgen Klopp has changed his side from also-rans to world champions, no longer is Anfield a stepping stone. One man that did treat the club as a stepping stone is rumoured to be lining up a Premier League return with Bild reporting that Arsenal have joined the race for Emre Can.
Emre left Anfield after losing the 2018 Champions League final in Kiev.
The German midfielder had ran down his contract with the club in order to secure a free transfer to Juventus.
Since switching to the Italian Serie A the midfielder’s playing time has dwindled.
Emre made 20 starts in the league last season but has managed just two so far this campaign.
After being left out of the Champions League group stage squad, the German voiced his concerns to the media.
A return to the Premier League seems increasingly likely with Bild reporting that Manchester United, Tottenham and Arsenal are all considering a move for Emre Can.
According to the report offers of around £25m will be considered by the Italian giants.
What RTK has to say
The demise of Emre’s career has served to show players that leaving Anfield for bigger and better things rarely works out.
Both Can and Philippe Coutinho forced moves away from Merseyside in order to further their careers but both had to watch on from home as The Reds lifted the Champions League in Madrid.
£25m is a snip for a player of Emre’s talent but whether or not he secures a switch back to the Premier League remains to be seen.
Bild have also claimed there is interest from Germany and with the Euros set to take place this summer, the midfielder may want to impress in the Bundesliga in order to secure a place in the national team squad for the summer tournament.
