Alvaro Romeo believes Liverpool will 'incinerate' Atletico Madrid

Liverpool are top of the Premier League and in a strong position to retain the Champions League. Jürgen’s Reds have been given a glowing endorsement by pundit Alvaro Romeo, who believes Liverpool will ‘incinerate’ Atletico Madrid.

The Reds topped their group in before Christmas, with a win over Red Bull Salzburg in December securing them a top seed spot in the knockout draw.

Jürgen Klopp’s side were drawn against Atletico Madrid in the round of 16.

Liverpool have been well backed to retain their European crown this season given their impressive form in the Premier League.

A couple of seasons ago Atletico would have been a daunting prospect but Diego Simeone’s side have struggled in La Liga this season.

The Madrid side are languishing in fifth place, ten points off top spot.

My Revenge On Ben Foster

Alvaro Romeo has backed Liverpool to make light work of Atletico Madrid, telling the Totally Football Show:

“I think Atletico will be incinerated by Liverpool. If they are not strong defensively and if they can’t score goals – they only have 22 in the league – how can you harm Liverpool?

“The only scenario I can think of is a 0-0 draw at the Wanda Metropolitano in the first-leg, then if Atletico scores at Anfield, Liverpool has a problem.”

What RTK has to say

The Reds would be incredibly disappointed to go out at this stage of the competition.

With Atletico finding goals hard to come by and Liverpool boasting one of the meanest defences around – Alisson has conceded just one league goal since the 4th of December – we cannot see the Madrid side scoring many.

If Jürgen Klopp’s side bag an away goal at the Wanda Metropolitano they will feel confident of getting through the tie.

The fact that last season saw an English final is testament to the strength of the Premier League at the minute – a side leading the division by 16 points should breeze past a club in fifth place in Spain.
